Okay, so here we go with another digital audio recorder review, and this time we’re going to take a look at the M-Audio MicroTrack II. At the time of writing this review, it got an average score of 3.5 out of 5 stars from customers.

The main good things about this audio recorder are: It’s a very handy size, so it’s great for carrying with you and recording pretty much anything. Also, it’s extremely versatile, and also works well with professional microphones.

The only real problem with this audio recorder is that it doesn’t feel like it’s really built to last. This is not a problem if you look after your stuff, but if you’re in a bit of a crazy band environment where things just randomly get left lying around, then I’m not quite sure how long this unit will last.

Disappointing  

Researched this product thoroughly before buying, very enthusiastic about its touted capabilities. In theory this unit sounded great. Great Product  

I am a radio reporter so having a good recorder is of the utmost importance to me. This product is outstanding and has served me very well for the last year. It is very easy to use and the sound quality is great. The only drawback is that this thing goes through AA batteries very quickly. Many of my colleagues have purchased rechargable batteries to make up for this, some (like me) just buy them in bulk from warehouse stores such as BJ’s.

I highly recommend this unit for any radio reporter. Gave 4 stars, only took one away because of the abttery issue.

Much better than the competition  

I previously wrote an Amazon review of the main competition for the Edirol R-09 digital recorder, namely the m-Audio “Microtrack”. In that review, I noted some serious reservations that I had with the Microtrack. Since that time, further experience with m-Audio and the Microtrack soured me on that company and that product, but Amazon does not allow a person to modify their reviews. I don’t want to go in to the details here, but I will say that I decided the Microtrack was barely worth bothering with, and I ordered the Edirol R-09.

The R-09 is obviously targeted as a ‘Microtrack killer’, and in most ways Edirol has come through on all counts…

Not too shabby, but not quite pro-quality, either.  

In terms of consumer audio, the R-09 has a lot lot going for it. It is astonishingly handy and easy to use. Learning it “on the go” is a breeze, thanks to its terrifically intuitive menu structure. The backlit display is clean, responsive, and well-designed. It’s light as a feather (although not very rugged) and handsome. Battery life is wonderful (it runs forever on two AAs). And, for most purposes, the quality is excellent, with a decent range of recording options (WAV or various levels of MP3)…

Okay, when it comes to digital portable recorders, the Edirol R-09HR really is the best. It is a much anticipated update of their popular (but not trouble-free) R-09. The Edirol R-09HR is an amazing device. It looks a bit like an electric shaver and fits in the palm of your hand. A friend of mine has the Zoom H4 which is much larger, has cheap plastic finishing and a clumsy user interface. R-09HR best digital recorder on market!  

I have been waiting for 2 years to finally purchase this great machine.
I have done a lot of research on all available competing recorders.The previous generation R-09 had some problems reported by other users,causing me to wait until new R-09HR came onto the scene. Mike preamp noise ,and failure of mike and line input jacks,and cheap plastic construction and other minor issues with R-09 caused me to wait to purchase this fantastic new R-09HR.
